Essentium, Inc., a Pflugerville-based 3D-printing company, plans to provide thousands of reusable protective masks for first responders and area workers to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Essentium, Inc. delivered 30 pilot units this week and plans to deliver 500 more next week through an order from the Pflugerville Community Development Corp., according to a company news release. The masks will be used by first responders in Pflugerville, including police officers, firefighters and paramedics.

Essentium CEO Blake Teipel said in the release that while the supply chain for personal protective equipment has faltered, the company chose to act as a “second-tier responder” in the fight against coronavirus.
